CFS Roofing Services LLC – Southwest Florida FL
How David Got Fed Up and Started Over
David Crowther worked for his family’s roofing business in Joliet, Illinois for thirty years. Thirty years! But by 2009, he’d had enough of doing things the old way.
See, David kept watching how most roofing companies treated customers. Rush in, slap on a roof, collect the check, disappear when problems showed up. He figured there had to be a better approach.
So David packed up, moved to Southwest Florida, and started CFS Roofing with one simple idea – what if we actually cared about the customer experience? Wild concept for the roofing industry.
Turns out people in Southwest Florida were pretty hungry for a roofing company that answered phones, showed up when promised, and didn’t vanish after cashing checks. Who knew?
Fifteen years later, David’s running a $29 million operation with 151 employees. Not too shabby for a guy who just wanted to treat people decently.
Three Offices Because Florida’s Big
CFS set up shop in three spots across Southwest Florida. Their main headquarters sits on Lee Road in Fort Myers – huge facility with office space, warehouse, and a sheet metal shop.
Naples office handles that market from Airport Pulling Road South. Sarasota crew works out of their Sawgrass Road location. Smart setup because Southwest Florida covers a lot of ground.
Having local crews matters when your customer calls at 6 AM because Hurricane Ian just ripped their roof off. Can’t help much if your nearest truck is three hours away.
Commercial Flat Roofs Pay the Bills
David’s crews do a ton of commercial flat roofing. Office buildings, warehouses, retail centers, condos – basically anywhere businesses need roofs that don’t leak on their stuff.
They work with all the flat roof systems. TPO membranes (those white ones that bounce heat back), built-up roofing for heavy-duty situations, modified bitumen when you need something tough.
Recent job at their own headquarters shows what they can do – 18,000 square foot commercial building with Johns Manville PVC and TPO systems. Cost them $264,000, but hey, if you’re gonna showcase your work, might as well use your own building.
CFS also runs their mechanical division, so they can handle the whole package. Need new roofing plus HVAC work? One phone call instead of coordinating three different contractors who all blame each other when things go wrong.
Houses Get the Same Attention
Sure, commercial jobs write bigger checks, but David’s team treats every homeowner like they’re doing the company headquarters. Each residential job gets a project manager who walks you through everything.
They’ll sit down before work starts, review your color choices, explain the schedule, answer whatever questions you’ve got. None of this “crew shows up Monday, maybe” nonsense.
Customers keep mentioning how careful CFS is with landscaping. “The crew that came out to strip the roof were so careful with covering delicate areas like my garden,” one wrote. That’s not accident – that’s how they train their people.
When Ian Hit, They Showed Up
Hurricane Ian slammed Southwest Florida in September 2022. Most contractors disappeared or started making excuses. CFS crews were out the next day putting tarps on damaged roofs.
One customer wrote: “Within 24 hours notice, CFS Roofing sent a crew to my home, put a tarp on the home, and prevented more damage from the rain after hurricane Ian. Cannot thank the staff enough for helping us when four others were contacted first and said they would come to do the job!!!”
That’s the difference between companies that live in the community versus ones that show up after storms to make quick money. David’s people have been here for fifteen years. Their kids go to local schools. They’re not going anywhere.
Licenses and Community Stuff
CFS holds Florida contractor licenses CCC036985 and CMC053201, good through 2026. They’re licensed in multiple counties where they work. BuildZoom tracks almost 2,000 building permits for them totaling over $346 million worth of work.
David also believes in giving back to the communities that support his business. CFS sponsors Habitat for Humanity, PACE Center for Girls, American Cancer Society, and other local organizations.
“Our success provides an opportunity for CFS and its employees to give back to the Southwest Florida community through donations of money, skills, and time,” David says. Nice to see a contractor who remembers where his success comes from.
What Sets Them Apart
Most roofing companies either stay tiny and overwhelmed or grow huge and impersonal. David found a sweet spot – big enough to handle major projects, small enough to still care about individual customers.
They offer maintenance programs that actually prevent problems instead of just fixing them after expensive damage happens. Their service crews document everything with photos and give you transparent pricing.
Having both roofing and mechanical services means they can tackle complex commercial jobs that would normally require multiple contractors. Less coordination headaches, consistent quality control.
Aaron Manual, one of their supervisors, gets mentioned by name in reviews. “Aaron Manual was the greatest supervisor of all time,” wrote one employee. “I want to be a great leader like him one day.” That kind of leadership doesn’t happen by accident.
What People Actually Say
